Delia Kenza Interiors: Modern Brooklyn Interior Design Rooted in Culture and Warm Minimalism

Updated: Jun 22

In a city filled with interiors that can feel overly polished or impersonal, Delia Kenza Interiors offers something far more lasting: soulful, rooted in culture, and deeply personal spaces. Based in Brooklyn, this boutique design studio is led by Delia Kenza, a self-taught designer with an intuitive approach that seamlessly blends historic architecture with a distinctly modern perspective.

Delia’s work is marked by thoughtful restraint, what she refers to as “warm modernism”, where bold cultural inflections elevate clean lines, natural materials, and subtle textures. Whether restoring a century-old brownstone or designing a ground-up concrete retreat, Delia brings a sense of story and specificity to every space she touches.

Kenza's Design Philosophy

Delia Kenza’s design ethos is guided by the belief that a well-designed home should reflect the people who live in it. Her process is deeply collaborative, prioritizing client relationships and cultural storytelling as much as spatial layout or material palette. “My goal,” she says, “is to create a space that doesn't just look good—it feels like you.”

Her projects often balance sculptural simplicity and meaningful contrast: richly grained woods against smooth plaster walls, curated art layered atop neutral backdrops, and historic architectural elements carefully preserved alongside modern insertions. Influenced by her heritage and early exposure to craft through her grandmother, a seamstress renowned for her refined taste, Delia’s work embodies a tactile, grounded elegance.

She’s known for avoiding overly trendy aesthetics in favor of timeless, emotionally resonant interiors. Unlike many designers who treat design as purely visual, Delia designs for presence, for spaces you feel as much as you see.

Notable Projects

Brooklyn Brownstone

Delia honored the building’s original character in her Clinton Hill home while adding a modern, art-driven sensibility. Original plaster molding, fireplaces, and parquet floors remain intact, but they are juxtaposed with gallery-white walls, contemporary lighting, and pieces by African and diasporic artists, including muralist Moosh and her husband, sculptor Júlio Leitão. The result is a space that feels both historic and distinctly modern—a living museum of family, memory, and self-expression.

Sag Harbor Retreat

For her first ground-up construction project, Delia drew inspiration from African modernism, tropical brutalism, and the elemental architecture of Tadao Ando. The home, built from cast concrete, is both sculptural and serene. The glass and wood expansion brings warmth and light into the solid structure, while the open layout encourages exploration and gathering. “It was my dream to create something new that still feels ancient,” she told Elle Decor—a sentiment that captures her ability to bridge eras and geographies in a single space.

Clinton Hill Townhouse Renovation

In this thoughtful renovation, Delia focused on creating a quiet, grounded backdrop for her clients' eclectic art and furniture collection. A monochrome palette anchors the home, while rhythmic repetition of textures—white oak, black steel, polished plaster—establishes visual continuity. Each space flows seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive home yet layered with detail and meaning.

About Delia Kenza

Before launching her design practice, Delia Kenza practiced law—an experience that informs her sharp analytical thinking and her ability to navigate complex projects. However, it was her personal renovation projects that drew her into the design world, where she quickly gained recognition for her taste, storytelling, and ability to bring a distinctive voice to contemporary interiors.

Over the years, she’s been featured in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, The Guardian, Brownstoner, Curbed, and more. Her work is frequently cited as an example of how modern Black designers are reshaping the future of American design, both visually and culturally.
